French green clay (illite) is one of the most absorbent cosmetic clays there is. In a cold-process bar it gives a silky, balancing wash that suits oily and combination skin.
Why we make french green clay soap.
French green clay gets its colour from decomposed plant matter and iron oxides, and its reputation from how much moisture and surface oil it can hold. Traditionally quarried in France and sun-dried, it has been used in spa treatments for well over a century.
In a soap bar the clay does two things: it gives the lather a smooth, slippery body, and it helps lift surface oil so skin feels balanced rather than coated. Our French green clay bar pairs the clay with olive oil, tallow, cocoa butter and shea butter, then finishes it with sandalwood and frankincense essential oils — so it clarifies without turning drying.
If your skin runs oily through the day, or shifts between oily at the T-zone and normal elsewhere, a green clay bar is usually a better daily choice than a charcoal bar, which cleanses harder. Every bar cures 6 to 8 weeks before it ships.
