Cocoa butter is one of the oldest skincare ingredients on the planet and one of the most underrated in modern soap.
What it actually doesCocoa butter is a hard, stable fat pressed from cacao beans. In cold-process soap it plays three roles:
- Hardness — makes the bar denser so it lasts longer in the shower
- Barrier support — leaves a light, occlusive layer that locks moisture in
- Conditioning — brings a soft, creamy quality to the lather
Deodorized cocoa butter is stripped of its aroma and much of its polyphenol content. Raw cocoa butter keeps both — a faint natural chocolate warmth and a stronger antioxidant profile. We use raw wherever the bar's scent profile allows it.
Who it's forDry, dehydrated, or mature skin benefits most. It's a favorite for winter routines, post-sun repair, and anyone whose skin feels tight after washing. Look for it in our Golden Calendula, Chamomile Bliss, and Frosted Fir bars.
Why factories skip itCocoa butter costs 3–5× more per pound than palm. In mass production the numbers don't work. In a small batch, it's the difference between a good bar and a great one.
