Why we put castor oil in every bar

If you've ever wondered why some handmade soaps produce a stable, creamy lather while others fizzle out in seconds, the answer is almost always castor oil.

What castor oil does in soap

Castor oil is a humectant — it pulls moisture from the air into your skin. In cold-process soap, it does two other things almost no other oil can: it stabilizes lather, and it boosts bubble density. Without castor oil, most natural soap recipes lather thinly and briefly. Add just 5–8% and the whole bar transforms.

Why it matters for your skin
